Cross-Signature Signing-Key Recovery and Domain-Separation Repair for SDitH v2

José Luis Delgado
Abstract

SDitH is a code-based signature scheme built from the regular syndrome decoding (RSD) problem. Each v2 signature masks the long-term witness with pseudorandom leaf-seed shares. In each repetition, cancelling the shares reconstructed by the verifier leaves the witness XORed with the hidden seed's PRG output. The VOLEitH PRG runs AES or Rijndael in counter mode from zero, so every signature and leaf uses the same input. One encryption therefore tests a candidate seed against every exposed value. RSD elementary-vector constraints discard false candidates before the seed commitment confirms a match. A matching hidden seed reveals the long-term witness and yields a signing key. With $q=2^{12}$ chosen-message signatures, the attack costs 11.23-11.67 bits less than AES-128/192/256 exhaustive key search across all six parameter sets. Both use the same Boolean-circuit model, and the attack cost extends through fresh forgery. Reduced-keyspace executions against the official C implementation recover witnesses of 616, 876, and 1,144 bits and produce accepted fresh signatures for every parameter set. Using the signature salt as the IV leaves one signature's repetitions under one input and retains 1.95-3.29 bits of separation. Combining salt, BAVC leaf index, and block position assigns a separate counter range to each PRG call without changing signature size or the number of block-cipher calls.
